I think he is not so much leading but they are following.
He seems pretty unawares, as if he has some bigger picture to contemplate.
Their little fish-brains can't comprehend anything past the light's beautiful simplicity.
... Perhaps they are all contemplating this same idea.
Angler-boy doesn't seem hungry, but when he gets home, his family will probably enjoy a good snack!
