One of the lessons that I taught in my life drawing class at Sheridan College is that sometimes people over emphasize the need to spend hours and hours on a drawing or painting...
To paint or draw quickly isn't determined by how fast you physically put down marks on to a page. It's determined by how much correct information you can put down at what rate.
If you can talk about 100 different points with 10 strokes, you are drawing faster than a person that puts down 60 strokes talking about 60 different points.
1st! Finally : D I'm always taught simplicity in life drawing too, I noticed that the new guys will usually over construct what they're doing till they can visualize the construction without having to put it on the page.
The better you get the more you can say with less, economy of line my friend : D keep up the amazing work
I detest long sittings in Life Drawing - I'm done in about five or ten minutes. I find dwelling on drawings tedious.
If my anatomy cocks up, I start again. I've only wasted a few minutes, because I get that sorted first. I always work in ink so mistakes cannot be erased, and I find I dawdle less with my pen, and actually get it done faster and more efficiently without the safety net of an eraser.
Thanks for the tip! Very useful! Do you happen to have any recorded sessions of your class available?
