Urashima Taroby `imaginism

Here's another piece from our "Ancient Japan Sketches" book.

It's my version of an old Japanese folk-tale called Urashima Taro. The tale is about a boy who saves this enchanted turtoise who brings him to this magical kingdom under the sea to meet the beautiful queen, Otohime.
Its a cute little fairy tale, almost like Rip Van Winkle I think--but without the sleeping

I love the line work you've done here, combined with the textured paper and highlights its very fitting for the theme. The expressions are brilliant too, grinning kid and a sage old turtle

Oh how cute! I learned about this from the video game Okami. Except that they had it as a Dolphin that brought you to see the Queen Otohime. I would have loved it if it were a Turtle instead!!!
