Here's 10 important questions to ask yourself. Read them constantly as a checklist to make sure your are heading in the right direction and using your artistic potential.

1. What motivates you to create art? Write down your answer and think about how you can use this very important information.

2. What kinds of information have you been putting on the internet? The internet is the new resume. If I can find dumb pics or comments from you then other people can too...

3. Does your art express something interesting? Great art means something to its viewers, not just its creator.

4. Does failure push you forward? How you deal with failure will determine how skillfull you will become.

5. Do you enjoy arguing or flaming people's work? If you are the type of person to hate on others, it will come back to you. Especially with the internet and all the social networking.

6. Do you try out new methods/materials/subjects that might be unconfortable at first? Success is inevitable if you always choose to believe "It is my obligation to try."

7. Do you have a strong purpose or goal? When you have a purpose, you stand by it. Something special happens when you show an undying drive to achieve a goal.

8. Are you open to meeting new people and hearing others opinions with an open mind? Your heart & mind are the gates to success & happiness. Keep them open or miss out on great opportunities.

9. You can either let your environment shape you or choose YOURSELF to be who you want to be. The body & mind can be shaped into almost any type of person you wish to be. You just have to train it through persistence & constant search for knowledge. (*I started to be "good" in art when I decided to be extremely serious about it.) What kind of person do you want to be?

10.Do you constantly think about your goals? The best way to accomplish a goal is to have it on your mind all the time. Keep thinking about it until you obtain your goal. I'm not the first to say this one but I can't emphasize it enough.

I think it's important to mention that I don't believe I been given any natural talent when it comes to art, I believe I'm PERSISTENT. Anyone can be persistent.

Now PUNCH that laziness in the FACE and have a great day!!

Sending positive vibes to you all.

Bobby

Hey imaginism, good points. Now some considerations:

1. There is no motivation other than occupational theraphy until death arrives... Or money.

2. Stoopid for the majority, clever for the educated 31337... 100 years later. Never a great artist was applauded for his partners, unless you are Andy Warhol.

3. Define interesting. Everything is always a piece of crap for someone anyway; and that opinion is usually right.

4. Failure pushes you downstairs unless someone want to use your production to speculation or for washing money. Nobody worthy is going to ever see your production in the middle of a tsunami of similar works and trash.

5. That's why you must use tor and be an anonymous troll is possible.

6. No it's not. Stick to the basics, after all you are producing art for the masses, no?

7. Most commonly objetive for most artist is stop starvation; other that that, if your production is money driven, surely it will be a piece of crap, again, No. 6.

8. Most of the art critics and curators are worthless mouthbreaters that never in their stupid lifes did anything other than bashing other's artwork, so if you are going to pay attention to their antics, good luck. Real artist keep focused regardless if it pleases someone or not, or even if it will be called art at all.

9. I bet there are a lot of great artist in poor countries, unfortunately, they will be unable to display all their superior talents due a premature death; so yeah, your mind can shape everything, unless you have to fight for your life. Greedy people everywhere.

10. When you keep tryharding for something beyond your real talent ceiling that's by itself an indicator of failure; even if you get it right at the end, you will be a tryharder. Real talent requires no effort to produce great things. Tryharders' efforts will be always ridiculously average.

Yeah, I'm mad, but not at you.

good stuff.
I only have problems in the section 7.
I hardly see purpose on anything. Just doing what ever occurs to my mind... or do nothing.

Always wanted to have a sense of purpose in my life.

Hmm.... I like the inspiration behind this message, but:

1. You can't please everybody with your art, so try pleasing yourself first! As they say you are your own worst critic.

2. Isn't one of the reasons people are here (DA, other art websites) is to critique each others work and be honest with each other?
If the art looks really bad, I'm not going to lie and say it looks good when in reality the picture does not!

I really like and appreciate how passionate and generous you are with sharing not only your love of art with the world, but also your love of inspiring art in others.
It's really great, and I've certainly been motivated in my work today by reading this, and I am always inspired and motivated when I see any of your art.

Thanks for sharing and caring.

A lot to think about, I suppose ... but I mainly make art (or maybe "art" then, since it more often than not doesn't have a meaning behind it) only to keep my mind occupied so I don't have to think too much. But it's nice questions that I'll have to ask myself ... some time :)

I'd like to point out that it'd also be great if you have a mentor who can give you a life's worth of knowledge, especially from artists who have been successful. That way, you can learn from them and able to get to the top, or even better than your mentors. :)

1. What motivates me to create art? self-satisfaction, peer critiques and compliments, self-growth

2. What kinds of information have you been putting on the internet? I have a Blogspot, Facebook page, Twitter, My Space, and Concept Art.Org account but in all honesty, I could post more and updated art.

3. Does your art express something interesting? I hope to always tell a story through my art.

4. Does failure push you forward? Right now, I have a great fear of failure and rejection and it's this fear that is keeping me from succeeding.

5. Do you enjoy arguing or flaming people's work? No. I always try my best to give constructive criticism.

6. Do you try out new methods/materials/subjects that might be unconfortable at first? Yes but I could do more.

7. Do you have a strong purpose or goal? I do have a goal and purpose but I need to break a bad habit of mine like not finishing work or following through on tasks.

8. Are you open to meeting new people and hearing others opinions with an open mind? Yes

9. What kind of person do you want to be? I want to be brave and also a strong goal-oriented person.

10.Do you constantly think about your goals? I will.

Thanks Bobby for this list!

these are great points to use not just for artists but people in other creative sectors too.

I write and work on podcasts and related things and much of whats asked here can easily be adapted for what i do and what others in other mediums do.
