Tip of the Day: Comparing

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 20, 2012, 4:34 AM
Don't compare your life to others. See what others are doing but the best person to compare yourself to is you.
If I always compared myself to others and wanted to constantly compete or beat others, I wouldn't want to share what I know.
Everyone is on their own journey but together we can get further and faster.

Have a great Monday!
Sending positive vibes to you all

Bobby

I used to compare my self with others, and other have better art work and drawing skills then I do.

but I stopped doing that long time ago. it's not fair to compare, cause they worked hard for it while I didn't. if I want to be as good I just need to be as hard worker as them.

This kind of advice is probably one of the most important things nowadays..Im getting tired of every media , society and education system brainwashing messages that the only fucking way to accomplish something is to step over others."Grab what you can get and the others dont matter"

Know many people that want to be the lone wolf. When you are alone you should want to improve for yourself, your skills, your habits, the way you can do things always with the thought of being better at them each time. The ones that dont give up and the ones that never say "Well What else we can expect? We are fine now there s nothing to improve "When you are ready, seek others and plan, act and help each other , You ll reach faster , higher and better to your goals with team work.

This or continue to be trying to bring each other down. You decide. Sorry for my brick.

Wow you read my soul, Im 100% agree with you te only one fight to win is to win ourself and be our best version every single day. Compite against others doesnt take us to the stars just to be better than others. But the real true is to defing ourself and learn from our wrongs and be humble with our victories and share our innerlight.

Peace and stay lighting...

Such sage advice =) A good reminder since it's so easy to forget sometimes.
It can be hard not comparing yourself to others. However once you let it go, you'll be happier for it :meow:

I don't know how to judge my own self worth/artistic merit without comparing to others. It's not a good place for my head to be.

I used to have it bad, comparing myself to others, but I'm slowly discovering that we'll all advance much faster by trying to outdo ourselves. Make your next creation better than your last, behave better than you did yesterday, do something nice instead of ignoring others...always seeking improvement.

Oh man, I really needed to hear this today. I have had quite a few roadblocks in my life, including an eviction when I first applied to school and now a major illness which has put school and work on hiatus for who knows how long. This year I have been seeing my friends moving into their third years of school or even graduation (which especially hurts when I look at those who were able to stay in animation or sequential art), I have seen my young cousins that I used to babysit graduate high school and get into their first choice for university, I have even seen people the same age as me hired on as teachers... Even my younger sister is working on her portfolio for MY dream school. Comparing my life to theirs can be very depressing. I feel like a failure and I am living half a life...

But just looking at my life, I have done a hell of a lot. And even though I am sick and unable to go to school, I am still moving forward and surviving in places that maybe others couldn't.

Thank you.

True enough. I, too, feel very often that I should not even bother to start something that I have already seen done a hundred times better than I ever could somewhere else. But hey, exactly, you can only best yourself and slowly climb up the ladder. It's a good reminder, this :)
Have a very nice week!

I struggle with some problem these days, because I compare my art to other's, and every time find mine so poor. :/
It's ok, we shouldn't compare to other people, but if in the art business we want to have a job, shouldn't we have to be at least as good as others ? A had some advice on my work that make me think i have still so many thing to learn to success, i'm a bit on panic ! :(
