Tip of the Day: Conversation

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 2, 2012, 10:04 AM
Today try to make conversation with at least one person that you don't know. No matter how short the conversation might be.
More opportunities come if you make a habit of striking up conversations with people you don't know.

You wouldn't believe some of the people I've been able to get to know just because I decided to talk to them.

Sending positive vibes to you all!

Bobby

Having been very shy for most of my life, I decided some time ago to try to cure myself. I started by making myself talk to cashiers at stores and gas stations. You know the conversation will be short, so there's less pressure. It worked great for me!

I do love how your Tips of the Day are so relevant. Tried and tested earlier today before I even read this :)
I've been trying to make a point of doing this recently and it is invigorating!
Your advice is very much appreciated :)
Thanks Bobby!

Fantastic advice - no point being too shy, and not allowing people to know you exist!

Great idea. You either make a new friend and start a convo, unless the person might not be as interested, but either way there's nothing to loose!

Wow, crazy! I never talk to people I don't know, but today I talked to two different ones, and it was awesome and made some great connections. And it was before reading this!

First day of classes this semester I struck up a conversation with a girl I'd never met in my History class. Turns out she owns the biggest Photography group in the area, and is also a wonderfully nice person. I made a good friend and an incredible networking contact. :)

I have to agree that striking up random conversations is one of the things I love doing most here, especially in the Welcome-form.
There are so many amazing people to meet on this site that it's a shame if you stay in your own bubble. :faint:

You click on a deviants name and say hi, leave a comment on one of their pieces or you can wander into the forums.
There are loads of ways to strike up a conversation here.
See, even I did it right here! :happybounce:

I was thinking more in real life. Just been trying to get more fluid at it-- it's always interesting to learn about people!

It's funny you'd say that. Today I talked to two persons I didn't know, one it was a nice talk, the second a disaster. Ah, well. That's life.

You don't have to talk face to face. I mean, chatting or writing on the forum can be also considered as a talk :) Even devianART can be the place to talk, you can write on person's profile or one of their works ;)

i do that too, but i find being online isn't a way to be able to talk to people face to face, do you know what i mean,
here's a scenario

me: hello, how are ya?
random person: good good thanks, you?
me: yeah, good ta, see you later, have a good day.

my feelings: sky high because i have seen someone in person because i know i might see them again someday soon.

another scenario

me online: hello, i like your style of drawing,
random online person:thanks, yours too XD
me online: cool, see ya later.
random online person: yeah, see ya, and thanks.
me online: yeah, bye.

my feelings: low, because i haven't had the same experience that i can get when talking to people in real life.

i get what you are saying, but to me it's just not the same, but thank you for your advice, :)
