Tip of the Day: Mental Blinders

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 23, 2012, 6:40 AM
Sometimes you really have to just shut your brain off after making a good decision and just do it. Too many times we find that we know what to do but just don't do it. Today, come to a decision that is something you KNOW is a good one, then put on the mental blinders and just FOCUS on that task.

I think part of what success I've achieved so far has come from being able to focus on one thing for long periods of time like Forrest Gump.

Sending positive vibes to you all!
Bobby

I completely agree. Many times one does not follow through with a decision, known to be a good one, that is, one does not fulfill or follow through with what is found to be a known truth, because a silent argument within strives to disprove this truth. This personally has caused me to struggle with many paintings, because I am always erasing good decisions, that is, mashing the 'undo' key or deleting layers that don't meet some unobtainable perfection. These deleted brush strokes and layers are thrown away, simply, due the fear of making a mistake. The end result is frustration, breeding self doubt the most crippling emotion for creatives. Thus, the murder of the most amazing aspect of being an artist--witnessing the creation of something from nothing--becomes the only decision one unknowingly makes. It is so true that if one just shuts their brain off after making a good decision, following this KNOWN truth, self confidence can be built one good decision at a time. Thank you so much Bobby you really help me.
